World Events of 1974
- The 4th Arab / Israeli war ends (a.k.a. "Yom Kippur War".
- OPEC ends oil embargo.
- Brezhnev and Nixon meet in Russia to discuss arms limitation agreements.

- A Populist revolution takes over the government in Portugal.
- Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is deposed by a military dictatorship.
- Nixon becomes the first US president to resign from office. He resigns under the threat of impeachment. Ford Becomes president and in a controversial move pardons Nixon.

- World population reaches 4 billion people.
- Warsaw radio mast is constructed. At the time it was the tallest construction on the earth.
- The barcode first sees service as a retail tool.

- US Congress places a spending cap on military aid to South Vietnam, effectively bringing US involvement in the war to an end.
- The Intel 8080 is launched. Although it is based upon the Intel 8008 and the Intel 4004, its predecessors were not really designed for computers. The Intel 8080 on the other hand crosses the thresh-hold from "dedicated logic replacement", to become a full-fledged "computer on a chip".
