"On a recent trip to London I got to hear a rare
recording of the late Ustad Allah Ditta Khan of Punjab
from Pakistan Radio. He was also taught by Miyan
Kader Baksh (as was Allah Rakha ji Miyan Shaukat
Hussain) and and played for many years with the great
Raagiyas of Pakistan (he may have also accomapnied
people in India).
He played a beautiful short rela piece that I wanted to
share with all. The Rela uses both open and closed
sounds.
It is:
DhinGin DhinDhage Tirkit Dhatigin
I've heard some say that DhinGin was not used in
Punjab. Clearly from this example we see the
contrary. In playing, the Ustad used to use the Bayan
very beautifully by altering the place of emphasis." - Sajjad
