Misc. Info: I have studied Hindustani vocal music for six years in India at the Tansen Music College, Seniya Gharana, under Sri Sailen Banerjee. I have also learned from Sri Ashish Goswami, disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (Patiala Gharana), Pandit A. Kanan, and Pandit Vijay Kichlu. My present guru is Pandit Arun Bhaduri of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta. My other skills include the devotional music of the temples of Mathura and Vrindaban, and Bengali Kirtan. My two CD's are called SACRED RAGA (New Orleans, 1999), and SANJHER PRADIP (Calcutta, 2004). At present I give lecture/demonstrations for a fee at colleges and universities. I have also published a book, SONIC THEOLOGY: HINDUISM AND SACRED SOUND, which explains the Hindu philosophy of sound and music. My current project is a large CD archive of original temple songs recorded in north India.

I'm a member of the group, "The Rishis"; I play with Hindustani-vocalist Sean Johnson in concerts and chanting classes at the New Orleans Yoga Center. Misc. Info: I have received training in Hindustani music from Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri since 1996. For four years, I've been co-leading a group and performing with Ustad Aashish Khan in traditional and fusion settings. More regularly, however, I perform with Calcutta-born sarodist, Priyo Majumdar as well as numerous NewOrleans based musicians in a variety of settings.  After Hurricane Katrina I lived in California working with Aashish Khan until recently relocating back to New Orleans to start 2008.  I'm currently presenting music at Nirvana Indian Cuisine every Wednesday evening through Jazzfest '08.  I'm also contributing to the State's New Populations research by documenting the maintenance of Indian Classical music in Louisiana.
